Another excellent nature book. Malay becomes enthralled with four 'un-charismatic' species: eels, moths, fresh-water mussels and crickets. His exploration of their lives and habitats takes him – and us! – to all sorts of unexpected places to make fascinating discoveries. Inevitably, alas, it's also a record of diminishing numbers in all the species, so a kind of elegy. Underlying everything is Malay's eloquent plea about conserving the relationship between humans and all living creatures. A lovely book!
